The IPL 2025 auction will be held on November 24 and 25, 2024. It will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

This will be the second time the auction is held overseas. The 2024 auction was in Dubai.

The exact times for the auction are yet to be confirmed.

The auction will overlap with the third and fourth days of the Australia vs India Test match in Perth.

Why is the IPL 2025 Auction a 'Mega Auction'?

Every three years, IPL teams have to make big changes.

They can only keep a few players.

For IPL 2025, teams can keep a maximum of six players.

The rest of the players are put up for auction.

In other years, teams can keep more players and only do a "mini auction".

Mega auctions take longer because there are many more players up for bidding.

The final list will include both Indian and international players.

How Many Players Can Each Team Buy at the IPL 2025 Auction?

Each team can have a maximum of 25 players.

They must have at least 18 players in their squad.

46 players have already been retained.

So, there are 204 spots left for new players.

Each team can have a maximum of 8 overseas players.

That means 70 overseas players will be available at the auction.

Why Do Teams Have Different Numbers of Slots to Fill?

Teams kept different numbers of players before the auction.

For example, Punjab Kings kept only 2 players, so they have more spots to fill.

Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders kept 6 players, so they have fewer spots to fill.

What is the Right-to-Match Option?

The RTM (Right-to-Match) option lets teams buy back a player if another team bids for them.

If the bidding price goes higher than the original amount, the team can match that bid.

The number of RTM options a team has depends on how many players they keep.

For instance, Punjab Kings has 4 RTM options, while other teams have fewer.
